Lights come up on the interior of a room in a present-day brothel. Jewel, wearing a robe, is preparing for an assignation with a client. There is a knock on the door and Stan enters. He is courteous and exchanges a few pleasantries as he begins to take off his clothes. There is another knock on the door and Jewel goes to see who it is. It’s Joanne, who claims she is an intimacy coach that the brothel has hired to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
As Joanne explains the need for an intimacy coach in brothels, because the women are actually performing intimacy—as in a play. Stan vehemently argues against this model of prostitution, and Jewel supports him in portraying her role as authentic and consensual.
Joanne brings in the example of “kayfabe” in professional wrestling—the [def] As the conflict escalates, Jewel suddenly begins to “de-role,” admitting that she does not experience orgasms with the johns. As Jewel discloses more and more of her authentic experience, Stan becomes violently abuses and exits.
After his exit, Joanne admits that has lied about her job as an intimacy coach. Both women enjoy the joke, and Joanne asks Jewel to join her in her efforts to aid women in exiting prostitution. The encounter ends in levity, as Joanne admits that “It’s all kayfabe, baby.”
