Gaia Solstice Carols
Swedish Saint of Snow by Sudie Rakusin
I love the melodies of the old christmas carols, which conjure up for me childhood memories of long nights, warm fires, the scent of evergreen, and the laughter of friends gathering together to feast and exchange the gifts of the season. These melodies kindle deep pagan longings in me, and I have written new Wiccan verses to celebrate the Great Mother and her Daughters.
“O Little Girls of Gaia’s World”
[to be sung to the tune of “O Little Town of Bethlehem”]
O little girls of Gaia’s world--
How precious is your play!
The sparks and flames of your girl games
Light up the Goddess Way.
And in your secret gardens
There grows a sacred vine,
Where hopes and dreams of Warrior Queens
Are blooming all the time!
“O Blessed Be”
[to be sung to the tune of “O Holy Night”]
O blessed be!
The Goddess, she is smiling--
It is the smile of a Mother who loves.
Often confused
By worldly dreams beguiling,
We were afraid, and we knew not what of . . .
But now we see the truth about creation!
Now we see the lie behind the fear--
Throw back your head, and laugh with jubilation!
Laugh! Laugh! O laugh! The Goddess, She is here--
O laugh! O laugh! O laugh . . . for She is here!
